The disintegration of Soviet Union is a great tragedy of the socialist movement in the history. The cause of the disintegration of the union is complex and multifaceted. The thing plays the most direct and decisive factor is the loss of the Soviet Communist Party’s progressiveness, allowing the breeding of corruption.
The elite of the Soviet Communist Party discussed respectively to determine its ideology. According to one of the multiple public opinion polls, 83% of the civilians in the SU maintained the socialism, while the majority of the elite are in favor of capitalism. Apparently, this formed a sharp contrast to the manner of people. The Soviet elite believe, the transition to capitalism can make them become richer and richer. So claiming to represent the interests of the people, the cadre of the Party group has already transformed into a privileged Party in opposition to people. No one can protect the interest of the majority. When the masses increasingly feel that privileged class and their own fundamental interests are drawing further apart, this political system will inevitably decline and collapse.
Apart from this substantive reason, there are still a variety of causes remain to be considered critically.The highly centralized economic system caused a long-standing economic crisis in the SU, and finally gave rise to the economical recession. Another aspect to review is the inferiority of the socialism advocated by some western countries. Whereas the facts that the initial social system brought the SU prosperity and ambition indicated the institutional reason may play an indirect role here. In addition, the leader’s dereliction of duty, the peaceful evolution, the Arms race from America and the ethnic problems in theSoviet all caused the collapsed of this giant.
