Last week, our class held a heated discussion on "Luck and Success". Some of my classmates think that only through diligent work can we achieve success.

In my perspective, I don't quite agree with them. There is no denying that diligence is a vital part of a successful career. Without one's hard work, nothing can be achieved. However, I do think luck is as important as diligence.

It is said that luck only kisses the forehead of a diligent guy, so we need to be well aware of the fact that diligence is the hard base of the success while luck is the marvelous buildings on it. If we want our life to be brighter than others, without either of them, no one can manage it.

Undoubtedly, those successful persons do make more efforts than other people. Let us set Jeremy Lin as an example. Before his name was adored by everyone across the world, he just practiced harder and harder to let people recognize him. And it is luck that makes his efforts to be paid off, that allows his crazy performances shown to the whole world, that builds up a brand new Jeremy, not only diligence but also fame and praise.

In a word, I firmly hold the view that if the precious success is compared to be a crown, the diligence should be the diamonds around the shiny pearl, luck. (by 吴翊婷）

Personally speaking, there is no denying that diligence features largely on our ways to succes, but still, we can not neglect the contribution of luck. We should take pains to make ourselves well-prepared so that when "good luck", which stands for opportunity and chance hit us, we can surely make the best of it and enjoy the great success.

As we all know, Zhang Ziyi, labelled as the most famous Chinese actress, is such a case. Born into a working class family, life was tough for young Ziyi. However, though equipped with an average talent in dancing, she still practised really hard, never thinking aobut giving up halfway. It's in her twenties that she was discovered by the famous director, Zhang Yimou, to act as a pure girl in the film My Father and Mother, which later turned out to be a real hit. Since then her career took off.

Though most of us are likely to regard her success as a real luck, yet we can not ignore her hard work and diligence. It's believed that luck is always for those who are well-prepared. With both luck and diligence, one is sure to succeed. (by 谢伽琪）

However, I can't agree with them totally. It's true that all people who are successful in their career must be hardworking, but hey ignore that there are also hundreds of people who try their best to achieve success but receive nothing. Therefore, in my opinion, it's important for a person who wants to stand out to have a good luck in addition to diligent work.

As we all know, one of the most famous women in the world was Helen who became deaf and blind due to a serious disease in her early year. A list of achievements which may make all of us feel ashamed were made by the disabled woman. But all the things would not have been achieved if she were not lucky enough to meet her teacher Anne who helped her learn about the world and taught her how to write.

Accordingly, if we are not blessed by luck, the way to success may be harder and the chance of failing will be more. Though the hard work is necessary, the good luck can not be ignored.(by 李燕儿）
